COVID-19 - Update 2020-3-31
Submitted By Kelly Palmer on Tuesday, March 31, 2020
The FHA Board of Directors hope all of our community members are keeping well and healthy during this unprecedented time.  As previously communicated, Hockey Canada and the OMHA have suspended all hockey activities until further notice and as a result the 2019-20 season is cancelled.  We want to recognize the effort that has been put forth by everyone in our association during the season.

The Ontario Hockey Federation (“OHF”) confirmed that tryouts for the 2020-21 season will not be conducted this spring.  The OHF will provide guidance on when the introduction of the 2020-21 season will begin, subject to the Hockey Canada Board of Directors’ future decision when to reinstate all Hockey Canada-sanctioned activities.  Information on registration for the upcoming season including rep tryouts will be provided once the FHA receives further information  – Stay tuned to the FHA Website for details.  Given the extent of economic hardship in our communities, the FHA Board is cognizant of our member families’ financial responsibilities and priorities - do not worry about missing any payments or registration at this time.  The FHA has produced a hockey related COVID-19 FAQ section click FHA_COVID-19_FAQ

Below you will find the statements from Hockey Canada and the OMHA regarding all hockey operations at this time - you can also visit their websites for additional details.

The FHA continues to work diligently in the background during this crisis.  We are in regular contact with our member partners - Hockey Canada, OHF, OMHA and Tri-County - and we will share updates as we receive them.  The FHA Board of Directors are also making contingency plans for our Annual General Meeting, tryouts and other tasks associated with off season planning for FHA and FDREP programming.

The FHA Board wishes to acknowledge all the front-line workers during the crisis, we thank you for all you do. We wish all families well during this difficult time - stay safe and healthy.

CALGARY, Alta. – The following is a statement on behalf of Hockey Canada from Tom Renney, chief executive officer, and Scott Smith, president and chief operating officer, on the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Without question, this is an unprecedented period of difficulty for the sports world. The health and safety of all participants in sport, including players, coaches, staff, officials, fans, family, volunteers and the general public, is of the utmost importance to Hockey Canada.

After much consultation with the Hockey Canada membership, our chief medical officer and public health officials, the Hockey Canada Board of Directors has made the decision to cancel all Hockey Canada-sanctioned activities, including our national championships, until further notice, effective Friday, March 13, 2020.

We recognize the tremendous effort that has been put forth all year by individuals across the country as they participate in Canada’s game. Although it is difficult to process the hockey season ending abruptly, we feel this is the best course of action in order to do our part in keeping our country safe.”

Ontario Minor Hockey Association Statement

We have been proactively working alongside Health Canada, Hockey Canada and local public health officials in regards to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). We will be proactive in informing our constituents on all upcoming protocols and required actions as they become available.
