Welcome aboard Mark!

Mark Visentin Bio:

Mark Visentin brings a wealth of goaltending knowledge and a local presence to the Flamborough Hockey Community. Growing up in Waterdown, Mark was always outside playing road hockey, or on his bike with friends. Mark played house league in the Flamborough Minor Hockey Association before making the AA rep Flamborough Sabres. He enjoyed two years with the Sabres while winning two OMHA Championships. Mark moved on to play AAA hockey, and was drafted in the third round to the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

Although Mark was never the “top” goalie in his age group, his hard work and determination led him to make the Niagara team as one of two 16-year-olds. In his first year in the OHL, Visentin struggled adjusting to the speed of the game. Therefore, he took it upon himself to do the proper training and conditioning for his upcoming NHL draft year. Mark ended up having a breakout season and was drafted in the first round, 27th overall to the now Arizona Coyotes. Mark’s development also earned him a spot on Team Canada where he earned a silver and Bronze medal in back to back years at the World Junior Championships. Outside of the rink, Visentin attended weekly school visits, while always making time to sign autographs for kids and fans. He enjoyed giving back to the community and hopes every child has the chance to do what he did - doing something they love. As Mark’s OHL career came to an end, he set the shutout record with 10 shutouts in only 42 games while winning league awards and earning his place on All-Star teams.

As Visentin turned pro, he began to go through the hurdles of starting his career in the American Hockey League (AHL). In his second season, he battled injuries but earned his first call-up to the NHL. After backing up 10 games, Visentin earned his first career NHL start versus the San Jose Sharks. Mark played well, and his confidence in his abilities grew from there. Unfortunately, at the beginning of his next fall training camp, Visentin suffered a season-ending ankle injury which led to surgery. After missing the entire season, Mark joined the Chicago Blackhawks affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs. After getting scored on 7 times in his first game in over 18 months, Visentin proved his resilience by posting a 38-save shutout in his following game. As the season progressed, Mark only played 13 games before suffering another season-ending injury leading to another surgical procedure. Mark refused to give up, he tried to bounce back from his back to back serious injuries, but his body could no longer withstand the physical demand it once could. At 25 years old, Mark retired from the game he loved.

After a few years of trying different things, Mark’s passion for hockey led him back into coaching. He now coaches goalies in Burlington, Guelph, Waterloo, and Cambridge. His mindset is to give goalies the tools he wished he had when he was young. Not only that, he goes above and beyond to track every goalie in every session by taking notes, and making individualized plans. Visentin also recognizes the importance of instilling a positive work ethic while ensuring the environment is fun. After all, the game of hockey is just that - a game. Mark is excited to return to his local roots and help goalies in his hometown. Waterdown represents a special place in Mark’s heart. From playing road hockey on the local streets to playing in the NHL, Mark hopes every child can have the opportunity to work towards whichever dreams & goals they envision. And if Mark can have even the smallest of impacts along the way, he will consider that a success.
