The
Flamborough Tyke MDs struck Gold over this past weekend with winning ways in
the Bradford Blue and Gold Classic Tournament. The Tykes were Tournament Champions and went 5
and 0 over the course of 3 days.
On January 19th, the team played and rolled with confidence from the success of their season with their first win against the Avenue Road Ducks 9-0, then a 5-1 win against league rivals, Centre Wellington Fusion 1.
On January 20th, the Tykes faced another Toronto team, the Leaside Flames. The Tykes again dominated the game with breakouts, passing and great team work which translated into a 6-0 victory.
The team then faced the Stoney Creek Warriors in the semi-finals on January 21st. With the semi-finals recorded as 5-1 win against the Warriors, the Tykes moved on to the finals later that day.
Meeting the stingy, tough Oshawa 7 Red in the Championship game, the Tykes opened the scoring early with Oshawa surging back and tying the game 1-1. The Sabres did not give up though and with an uplifting speech from Coaches Shawn, Mike, Marlon, and Beau, the Tykes came out flying in the 3rd. The two teams battled hard. Capitalizing on a goal late in the 3rd, the Sabres slid the 2-1 game winner past the Oshawa goalie to seal the victory and the Championship!
It’s a good story for Flamborough and for things to come from this young group. Great Work Tyke MDs! The parents, families and coaching staff are all proud of the effort put in by the team.
The Sabres now continue on with the play-offs in regular season play. Next home game is February 7th at the Carlisle arena. Come out to cheer on the Tykes!
