OHF Changes to Open Borders and Player Movement U10-U18 Rep
To the FHA Membership:
On December 17, 2024, the OHF (Ontario’s governing body of
sanctioned hockey) approved open borders and freedom of player movement across
Ontario at the U10 through U18 age groups – AAA, AA, A, B, BB. This change will take effect starting next
year in the 2025-2026 season.
What this means is that any player in Ontario can make the choice to tryout with whichever centre they chose to starting this coming April 2025.
The Flamborough Hockey Association's commitment to our players, parents and families remains the same; in that we will continue to offer top level programming, extensive ice packages, and the opportunity for our hometown players to grow and enjoy the game of hockey and Build Character Through Sport.
Please reference the OHF Announcement and their FAQ page for detailed information on this change.
This change was made much to the dismay and discouragement of Associations across Ontario and that includes the FHA. Primarily because it will effectively bring hometown hockey to an end. However, the OHF decided to move ahead anyways and said that their justification was to provide their "customer" with choice.
We will need to adapt and make changes to the way that we approach this new world, however, the FHA intends to do everything possible to retain, attract, and develop our players, coaches, and staff through increased development programming, education and finding the brightest and best hockey minds that are going to help Flamborough Hockey be the destination for players, families and coaches.
We will have additional communication to you, our membership, over the next 3-4 weeks and into the Spring (as we receive it) with updates and details on how we will continue to support our players and provide a competitive, fun, and safe environment for our players and teams.
