FHA Board Additions
Submitted By Kelly Palmer on Wednesday, January 09, 2019
Recently, we have experienced some change within our FHA Board which has created vacancies and an opportunity for us to bring in new volunteers and move an existing Director into another role.  We are pleased to announce the following effective immediately;

Brooks Albiston – Secretary

Brooks has been part of the community for the past two and a half years and has been volunteering as a coach in the house league division for three seasons.  Brooks is also the Bantam House League convener for the FHA. Prior to moving to Waterdown, Brooks volunteered as an assistant coach in Burlington for one season and was also a coach for 3 years in Alberta for the Strathcona Minor Hockey Association (SMHA).

Graham Hawkins – Risk Director

Graham was our Lower House Director on the board and most recently moved into the Risk Director role.  Graham has been involved as a coach and convener with the FHA Lower House Program from the IP level to Atom since 2014.  He has also coached the Jr. Sabres program and has been an assistant with the Atom Select Team for the 2018/2019 season.

Kyla Shuttler – Lower House Director

Kyla is excited for the opportunity to give back to her hometown as the Lower House Director for FHA.  She joined FHA in 2018 as the IP3 Convenor and began to gain more knowledge about the sport and our association’s values and goals. Kyla believes the success of our program reaches beyond on-ice performance and her goals are to work collaboratively with our coaching team to inspire our players to not just be good hockey players but good people.

The Treasurer/Accountant position is a non-elected Staff role.  The FHA has 3 (three) staff roles; Ice Scheduler, Registrar and Treasurer Accountant, that are contracted out bi-annually.

After seven (7) years as Treasurer/Accountant for the FHA, Greg Thorn has decided to end his term, as he has been transferred outside of Flamborough with his company.  Greg did however insist on helping us look for his replacement prior to his departure.    The position was put out to tender June – October utilizing various employment services.  Thirteen (13) applicants were reviewed and of the 13, Sandra Finoro was the best fit for the position.  Sandra’s selection was based on her 20+ years of experience in banking and insurance industries, she has her CPA, CA designations and has expertise in QuickBooks, which is the system utilized by the FHA.   Sandra has also been a part of the FHA community for 8 years.  Greg will work closely with Sandra to transition.

Greg’s time and input have been invaluable to the association, we thank him for his continued support and wish him the best of luck in the future.

 We are excited to once again have a full board!
