FHA Update 2020-12-24
Submitted By Kelly Palmer on Thursday, December 24, 2020
Dear Membership,

The FHA Board of Directors would like to take this opportunity to wish you all and your families a very safe and healthy holiday this season.  Although much different to all of those holidays that have come and past before us, this year unlike others will be forever changed and not easily forgotten.  Many of our families will be separated, others will experience difficult times, and for this this we wish to say you are not alone.  We are all in this together, we are a family, an extended hockey family.

With putting 2020 behind us the FHA Board would like to share some welcomed good news for our programming, we would like to announce just prior to the recent provincial lock down the FHA Board successfully was able to secure the opening and use of an additional facility- Carlisle Arena in order to meet the needs of our membership.  This would see the FHA ice package between the two facilities of Harry Howell and Carlisle return to similar seasonal ice allowances.  This was accomplished through the dedicated work of the FHA Board navigating through the daily challenges of the changing provincial, municipal  policies, procedures and regulatory hockey bodies.  The City of Hamilton did stipulate however, that the opening of both pads of HH for use at one-time will require a return to level ORANGE in the City of Hamilton.  So in terms of return to play, there is still some work to be done by all of us in flattening the curve and slowing the spread of COVID-19

With regard to resumption of play, the FHA board will provide updates when available once the province, municipal and OHF regulatory bodies communicate it is safe to resume programming.  For now, the City of Hamilton has communicated the following to ALL Ice User Groups:

As of December 21st , in accordance with Reopening Ontario Act, 2020, The City of Hamilton has moved to the “Lockdown” – Grey category within the Provincial COVID-19 Response Framework and Hamilton Public Health Services.  The following closures are in place.

  • All recreation centres, indoor pools, arenas, and community halls are closed to the public
  • All scheduled programs and rentals for indoor facilities are cancelled
  • New rental requests for indoor facilities are not being accepted at this time.

The FHA Board wish you all a safe and healthy holiday with your families,
