Available Financial Assistance Programs
The FHA does not provide direct financial assistance but understands and are able to work with families/players in need. There are many organizations who provide financial assistance directly to families/players to offset the cost of hockey for those in need.
Listed below are organizations who can assist FHA families with financial assistance through the programs they offer.
City of Hamilton Recreation Fee Assistance Program

The Recreation Fee Assistance program assists low income families to become involved in recreation. In order to qualify for this program, families must be residents of Hamilton and be living under the Stats Canada low income cut off level (LICO).
Canadian Tire Jumpstart

Jumpstart helps kids between the ages of 4 to 18 by assisting with the costs associated with registration, equipment and/or transportation for sports and physical activity programming.

DuFour Foundation

Established in 2009 by Troy DuFour in memory of his father Pat DuFour. This Award will be granted to individuals that demonstrate financial need in order to play hockey at a rep level. Eligible players within the FHA organization who show the capability and skill level to play Rep hockey, but cannot due to financial reasons.

The Children’s Foundation Free to Play programs provides financial assistance for children in need so that they can participate in sports, cultural and recreational activities. Funds are available for the activity of the child’s choice as long as the activity will benefit and enrich their own personal development.

Hockey 4 Youth believes in removing barriers for new Canadian youth and low income youth and increasing access to Canada's game. We do this by providing equipment, ice time, on and off ice coaching & mentoring through our T.E.A.C.H. (Technology, Entrepreneurship, Arts, Community-Giving, Healthy-Active Living) program to our youth Free of Charge to them.

Kidsport Canada / Hyundai Hockey Helpers

KidSport Ontario provides grant assistance to Ontario children and youth 18 years old or younger who are facing financial barriers preventing them from joining organized sport. Kidsport partners with Hyundai hockey helpers to provide grants to offset costs of participating in hockey to those in need.

Minor Hockey Foundation Ontario

Each year, minor hockey associations across the OMHA support numerous charities and charitable foundations. Thousands of dollars are generated and many causes and programs benefit from this support. The Financial Subsidy Program provides financial subsidy to minor hockey players who are currently experiencing difficulty raising enough funds to participate in the game.

The Game-Changer Award is designed to help individual families with unforeseen financial needs. The costs of registration fees and/or hockey equipment may be provided to families whose children have been impacted by job loss, divorce, illness, or death.
