Sabres' Remembrance Day Ceremony
Thank you for joining the Peewee Sabres for our Remembrance Day Ceremony, where we also recognized Sergeant Bob Thomas.

A few words about Sergeant Bob Thomas:

First a reservist with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, Bob Thomas joined the regular Forces in 1960 at the age of 18. While working as a peacekeeper in the Provost Corps, he served in Cyprus, Egypt, the Gaza Strip and Beirut. One of his duties included working to hold the line during the Six Day War in the Middle East in 1967.

In fact, one of the medals he wears on his uniform includes the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, given to all peacekeepers in 1988 for their services since 1947. The medal is still given out for peacekeeping missions.

Along with his military career, Thomas has dedicated his life to helping veterans. Last year he received the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers for his ongoing support for veterans.

He is a member of the Warriors Day Parade Council, which organizes an annual parade at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto and he also chairs the Justice Studies Advisory Board at Loyalist College and is an active member of the Canadian Army Veterans Motorcycle Unit, which raises money for not-for-profit organizations.

Locally, he volunteers with the Waterdown Legion as a veterans’ officer and helps those in need. This past year alone, he has helped veterans get to medical appointments, helped families with funeral arrangements and provided transportation for veterans to CFB Borden events. He also visits schools on a regular basis to teach children about the importance of remembrance, in addition to helping veterans navigate the bureaucracy of Veterans Affairs Canada to receive aid such as new wheelchairs, hearing devices and glasses.

Thank you Bob!
